The SAFESPUR Forum has been set up by the SAFEGROUNDS and SD:SPUR Learning Networks to promote good practice on nuclear and defence sites.
What are SAFEGROUNDS and SD:SPUR?
SAFEGROUNDS and SD:SPUR are major networks which develop good practice guidance for nuclear and defence sites. SAFEGROUNDS is concerned with the management of contaminated land and SD:SPUR is concerned with the management of assets and decommissioning wastes.
Both networks have steering groups which include active members from:
Industry |
UKAEA, British Nuclear Group, Magnox and British Energy |
Regulators |
HSE, EA and local authorities |
NGOs |
Welsh Anti Nuclear Alliance, Low Level Radiation Campaign |
Government |
NDA, MOD and Scottish Executive |
Defence |
Defence Estates and AWE |
Others |
NuLeaf, Universities, county councils |
From within these organisations major players regularly meet to give strategic direction to the development and implementation of consensus based good practice guidance. There is endorsement from the nuclear industry’s Safety Directors Forum and DTI and there are other key links through participation in national level initiatives:
Visit the SAFEGROUNDS and SD:SPUR websites for further information.
What is the purpose of the SAFESPUR Forum?
Contractors and consultants are showing increasing interest in SAFEGROUNDS and SD:SPUR because of the insights they offer into emerging market conditions, particularly the role of good practice in winning work and delivering commercial projects.
In response to demand CIRIA is forming a contractor and consultant group to regularly bring together commercial organisations interested in sharing practical information and experiences.
The group will link directly to the work of both SAFEGROUNDS and SD:SPUR and will focus on the adoption of good practice as a commercial differentiator in the marketplace.
Who should join?
Contractors and consultants involved or interested in work supporting MOD and/ or NDA Tier 1 contractors are invited to participate. The group is of interest to all parts of the nuclear and defence supply and project management chains.
| The group is a forum for discussion based on participants’ needs. It is not concerned with political lobbying, duplication of existing initiatives, high level policy discussions or brokerage of commercial contracts |
